Wendy Helgemo | Ho-Chunk Nation

Wendy is a member of the Board of Directors of Tribal Ready, PBC, bringing decades of experience in federal Indian law, policy, and Tribal governance that strengthens how strategic decisions are evaluated and advanced.

Wendy has spent more than 25 years working across the public, nonprofit, and Tribal sectors, focused on protecting Tribal sovereignty and advancing Tribal priorities at the highest levels of government. She currently works directly with Tribal Nations to strengthen government-to-government relationships and ensure Tribal interests are represented in state-level decision-making.

She previously served as Senior Advisor on Indian Affairs to U.S. Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid, where she played a key role in shaping federal policy impacting Tribal Nations. Her experience also includes serving as in-house counsel for several federally recognized Tribes and for the National Indian Gaming Commission, giving her direct insight into regulatory oversight and Tribal enterprise.

Wendy also led the National American Indian Housing Council in its efforts to pass the Native American Housing Assistance and Self-Determination Act of 2008, demonstrating her ability to move complex policy initiatives forward and deliver meaningful outcomes for Tribal communities.

A member of the Ho-Chunk Nation, Wendy brings both professional expertise and personal commitment to her work in Indian Country.

Through her experience: Wendy brings deep federal and legal insight, helping ensure decisions are aligned with policy realities, protect Tribal sovereignty, and stand up over time.
